Recmar REC3801271 is a new aftermarket variable-geometry marine turbocharger for selected early Volvo Penta D3-190 B/C-generation engines. It replaces or cross-references Volvo Penta numbers 3801271, 3802167, 3819920 and 3847393, together with selected Garrett GT2056V references.

Fitment first: this turbocharger is for the early D3-190 application and must not be ordered for a later D3-190 solely from the horsepower rating. Match the complete D3 suffix and the Volvo Penta or Garrett number on the turbo currently fitted. A Garrett identification ending in -0005 indicates a different turbocharger.

What is supplied?

Not included: installation gaskets, studs, nuts, oil pipes, hoses, exhaust components and other ancillary hardware. Related gasket or fitting-set reference RM3883844 should be ordered separately where required.

Installation and ordering checks

• Match the full D3-190 model suffix and identification plate on the old turbo.
• Do not substitute this unit for a turbo carrying a later incompatible Garrett reference such as a plate ending -0005.
• Inspect the variable-geometry control mechanism and associated actuator system.
• Inspect the exhaust connection for corrosion, carbon restriction or water-side damage.
• Check and clean the oil-feed and oil-return systems.
• Renew the engine oil, oil filter and all disturbed gaskets.
• Prime the replacement turbocharger with clean engine oil before start-up.
• Confirm that the original failure was not caused by oil starvation, contamination, intake debris or an exhaust restriction.
